Although Chinese medicine and some of the theories behind it seems very strange to Westerners, many facets
of Chinese medicine like acupressure and Tai Chi/Chi Kung are starting
to be used more in Physical Therapy for patients to use at home
to reduce pain, and improve balance, flexibility and strength.
We have found them very useful for our patients.
Most people state these exercises feel very relaxing and energizing
compared to typical exercises, even patients who have never heard
of Chi Kung or other Chinese medicine. The exercises and acupressure
will help with spine and whole body flexibility, pain and muscle
tension. Chi Kung exercises are extremely gentle and can be done
by patients with very limited movement. Regardless if they are
getting any special health benefits or not from the “cleansing
of the meridians”, their freedom of movement is much improved,
and patients like doing these exercises much better in general.
